31.7.45 I have spoken to Mr. Cox about (24) and he agrees that Mr. Priestley will be one of the most valuable members on the Committee and that, therefore, we should try to arrange their meetings at such times as will be convenient to him. In any case there is no reason why they should start as early as 10.30 a.m.

I also spoke to Mr. Cox about 18B and he agreed that we might take the preliminary step of consulting the Vice-Chancellor of Edinburgh University about Mr. Wilson. We should not want to appoint Mr. Wilson, of course, without the Committee's recommendation, but no doubt they would find it useful to have the Vice-Chancellor's views.
